We’re crazy lucky in LA to have access to such an amazing diversity and abundance of fresh, local produce year round. There are farmers markets every day of the week and most of what you’ll find there is either certified organic or—at the very least—pesticide-free, sourced locally and priced at or below supermarket prices. It’s pretty much paradise. Because the more fruits and veg (especially greens) you eat, the better you feel.
The good news for non-Angelenos is you don’t have to live in Southern California to enjoy the benefits of whole foods. Hell, you don’t even have to give up your pork rinds and moon pies. Just try adding more fresh fruit and veg to your diet, without depriving yourself of anything. Pretty soon, your clever body will start demanding more o’ the good stuff. And the more you oblige it, the less you’ll look at anything that comes from a can, box or factory as something you want to put in your mouth.
